Data and contact details

Alberto Dambruoso is an art historian, Professor of Art History at the Academy of Fine Arts in Frosinone, critic, and independent curator of contemporary art, based in Rome for almost thirty years.

He graduated in 2000 in Contemporary Art History from the Faculty of Cultural Heritage Conservation at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, and in 2007 obtained his teaching qualification in Art History from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

Specializing in Italian art of the 1960s, with a particular interest in the Roman group known as the “Scuola di Piazza del Popolo”, Dambruoso has curated several solo and group exhibitions dedicated to the artists who shaped that fervent creative period in post-war Italian art. On some occasions, he worked alongside Professor Maurizio Calvesi, one of the first scholars to write about the new artistic languages found in the works of the artists of the “School”, including Schifano, Festa, Angeli, Tacchi, Mambor, Lombardo, Fioroni, Ceroli, and Pascali, later contributing to their critical recognition through essays, texts, exhibition invitations, and invitations to the Venice Biennale. Also with Calvesi, Dambruoso curated the new general catalogue of the work of Umberto Boccioni, published by Allemandi in December 2016.

In early 2010, Dambruoso conceived “I Martedì Critici”, a weekly series of meetings and debates with leading artists, gallery owners, and critics from the national and international art scene. The events are held in Italian institutional venues, including the Auditorium di Mecenate, Chiostro del Bramante, Tempietto del Bramante, Quadriennale, Academy of Fine Arts, MACRO and MAXXI Museums in Rome, the PAN Museum and MADRE Museum in Naples, and the Pecci Museum in Milan. In February 2022, the initiative reached its twelfth year of activity.

From July 2015 to December 2017, Dambruoso was the artistic director of “BoCs Art”, which within just a few months of programming became the largest artistic residency project in Europe. Over two and a half years of activity, around 330 Italian and international artists took part in the residency in Cosenza.

In July 2022, Dambruoso published a new book on Boccioni with Maretti Editore, entitled Boccioni. Opere inedite. In March 2024, the book led to an exhibition entitled Boccioni. Disegni e opere inedite, held at the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera.
