CURRICULUM
Edith Urban, born in Germany in 1956, lives and works in Rome since 2003. Her essentially monochrome works mostly present a rhythmic structure, and often also contain written elements: traces of decontextualised verses, or just horizontal lines or abstract signs that are confirmed in the surface as important graphic elements - sometimes legible, sometimes only as an apologetic presence: an approach that is based on her studies from 1995-1997 at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Bildende Kuenste Frankfurt (Staedel) with the Viennese artist Hermann Nitsch, who held a tenureship for Interdisciplinary Arts there, but also on her earlier studies: from 1974-81 she studied German philology, economics and philosophy at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, where she obtained a master's degree in 1981 and for which she won (from 1975-1981) a scholarship from the ‘Hans Böckler Foundation’.
