Alberto D’Amico (Rome, 1962) is a visual artist, animation director, and independent curator whose work weaves together painting, analog and digital cinema, video art, installation, and poetic-essayistic writing.
Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome under the guidance of Sandro Trotti, he graduated in Animation Cinema with Giulio Gianini at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia—where he later taught for a decade. D’Amico has paired his artistic practice with a solid theoretical foundation, earning a degree in Aesthetics from Sapienza University of Rome under Pietro Montani.
Characterized by versatility and swift execution, his production has always operated at the crossroads of the moving image, pictorial mark, and written word. Throughout his career, he has directed numerous artist videos and animated short films, co-authoring works alongside prominent figures on the contemporary scene, including Elisabetta Benassi, Paolo Canevari, Massimo Arduini, Marina Paris, Marco Colazzo, Avish Khebrehzadeh, Valentina Coccetti, and Fabio Massimo Iaquone. His filmic and exhibition works have been presented at major museum institutions such as GNAM, MAXXI, PalaExpo, and the Pecci Museum in Prato; in leading galleries (Studio Stefania Miscetti, Galleria Sales, Galleria Pack by Giampaolo Abbondio); at international festivals including the Venice International Film Festival; and broadcast on RAI.
In 1991, he founded Studio Campo Boario in Rome, a historic independent space and permanent laboratory for visual experimentation that became a benchmark over the years for Roman curation and cultural debate. Interdisciplinary projects and exhibitions he conceived and curated include Bohario – Tensioni in campo (with Giuseppe Garrera), the Piramide Channel platform (with Tino Franco), and Laboratorio Bloomsbury.
In the field of publishing, he authored the artist book Aenigma (IFIX, 2023)—presented alongside its original plates at Arte in Nuvola—and the poetry collection La perdita (part of the "Micropoetiche" series edited by Roberta Melasecca). His poems, short stories, and theoretical essays have appeared in trade publications and literary journals such as l’immaginazione (Manni Editore), Niederngasse, GAMMM, Slowforward, and Script.
Among his most recent exhibition and curatorial activities are the solo show Alberto D’Amico e lo Studio Campo Boariocurated by Carlo Alberto Bucci at Blocco 13 (2025), the exhibition FantaRai curated by Bruno Di Marino at OGA (2023), Botanico da marciapiede at Studio M.o.C.a. (2019), and projects created for Studio Campo Boario including POERESIA, Sabotaggio terapeutico, and Obladì obladà (2025–2026). He also participates in group exhibitions such as Fragile ergo sum (Biblioteca Vallicelliana) and CITTÀ ACCOGLIENTE (Open House Roma).
Critics and scholars who have written about his work include Maurizio G. De Bonis, Bruno Di Marino, Raffaele Gavarro, Marco Giusti, Andrea Martignoni, Sabrina Perucca, Matteo Piccioni, and Franco Speroni.
