The gallery opened in Rome in 1992, adopting a thematic and intergenerational approach and focusing its research on the key movements of late 20th-century art, from Minimalism to Arte Povera and Conceptual Art.
The gallery was founded in 1992 by Erica Fiorentini, in Rome, Via Margutta 48, opening with an exhibition entitled La misura italliana, a rewiew of small size works, ranging from Giacomo Balla to Gino De Dominicis.
From the very beginning the gallery focused on a line of search that goes from the Informal abstraction, Arte Povera, Conceptual Art up to the italian and european Minimal art. Erica Ravenna Galleryis dedicated to the valorization of the work of artists who, from the post-World War II period to the present, have represented crucial junctures in contemporary artistic research, in the Italian and international spheres. Its curatorial line is based on a rigorous and constant reflection around the essentiality of visual language, privileging practices related to sign, word and writing.
The exhibitions engage with minimal forms and conceptual processes, in which formal rigor becomes a tool for critical and poetic questioning. Interest in memory, the archive and classification systems runs through the exhibition programming, fostering layered, nonlinear readings of the artwork. In all these years the gallery’s activity has been totally coherent with its stylistic and researching line which is proven by the exhibitions organized.
The exhibition project Materia Madre / Lingua Madre, curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini, stems from a reflection on matter as a primary and generative element, the matrix of life, and on language as a continuous process of translation and transformation Free access
