Dati e contatti

Antonia Ara is a Bulgarian painter working primarily in oil on canvas. Her work is distinguished by an intense and highly individual use of colour and encompasses portraiture, the human figure, flowers, landscapes and imagery connected with cultural memory. Her art explores identity, authenticity and memory — personal, urban and ancestral — as well as psychological presence and the power of the human spirit beyond matter.

Trained in Fine Art – Painting at the National Academy of Art in Sofia, in the studio of Prof. Andrey Daniel, she has maintained an independent painting practice throughout her life. Her broader artistic background includes work with different materials and disciplines, as well as acting, dance and cinema, experiences that have enriched her understanding of the human presence, movement and psychology.

Italy, and Rome in particular, has been a recurring source of artistic energy throughout her life. Through numerous stays and visits, she has developed a profound connection with the extraordinary layers of Italian visual culture, from antiquity through successive artistic periods to the present. She is currently extending her artistic and exhibition practice in Italy.
