Ahmad Nagy (b. 1980) is a Cairo-based artist, curator at the Egyptian Modern Art Museum, and lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Design, The British University in Egypt (BUE). He earned his BFA in 2002 and a Diploma in Painting and Art Criticism in 2004. Nagy is the co-founder of Cairo Documenta and the founder and artistic director of the Space for Contemporary Art and Cultural Development. Since 2000, he has actively participated in numerous local and international biennials, exhibitions and cultural initiatives. He is currently working on a multi-output project titled "Welcome to the 21st Century... It's not about beauty and all that shit".
Nagy’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, video, performance, sound, text, and installation. His work critically explores the intersections of cultural consumption, capitalism, politics, and science, examining their impact on art and mass media. Central to his research is the complex interplay between domination and consumerism. Guided by the principle that "the concept dictates the form," Nagy describes his creative process as the "detection of something that does not yet exist," constructing non-linear narratives and subjective methodologies that challenge traditional visual interpretation.
