Christie Lynn Caputo
Christie Lynn Caputo is an American documentary photographer based in Rome, Italy. Her work explores cultural memory, migration, and the ways people shape—and are shaped by—the places they call home. Working primarily with photography while incorporating sound recordings, oral histories, and personal reflection, she develops long-term documentary projects through sustained engagement with communities.
Grounded in a foundation of analog photography and informed by contemporary documentary practice, her work examines how identity is carried through memory, labor, family, faith, and everyday ritual. Through environmental portraiture, landscape, and observations of daily life, she creates photographs that reflect the evolving relationship between people, place, and tradition.
Caputo received a BFA in Photography with High Honors from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was awarded the Fred J. Forster Fellowship and a Merit Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Italy, including a solo exhibition at the Comune di Soveria Simeri in Calabria, and she has presented her work at the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan, fostering dialogue between contemporary Calabrian communities and descendants of the Italian diaspora.
