Elias Akleh is a visual artist based in Nazareth whose practice spans painting, drawing, and mixed media. His work investigates the human condition through questions of presence, perception, memory, place, and the relationship between the individual and the surrounding world.
Working with oil, charcoal, thread, and other materials, Akleh develops bodies of work in which figurative and abstract elements coexist. Rather than using the image as a fixed narrative, he approaches the artwork as a perceptual state—an open space in which meaning remains unstable and is continually reconstructed through the encounter between artwork and viewer.
His artistic research has developed through interconnected series including Absolute Case, State of Presence, Suspended States, Ephemeral Connections, and works rooted in the social and visual memory of Nazareth.
Akleh has exhibited internationally in Italy, the United States, and other contexts, including the XV Florence Biennale in 2025, where he received a Special Commendation from the President. His work has also been presented through exhibitions and projects associated with ITSLIQUID Group, Rossocinabro Gallery in Rome, and international contemporary-art initiatives.
Through his current practice, Akleh continues to investigate the space preceding fixed meaning: the point at which presence, perception, memory, and choice shape the experience of reality.

My practice explores the human condition through presence, perception, and the relationship between the individual and the surrounding world. Working across painting, drawing, and mixed media, I investigate how memory, place, light, and material shape what we perceive before meaning becomes fixed.
Rather than offering definitive narratives, the works function as open perceptual states in which figurative presence, abstraction, material, and empty space interact. Meaning is not presented as a conclusion, but emerges through the encounter between artwork and viewer.
This research forms the conceptual ground of interconnected bodies of work including Absolute Case, State of Presence, Suspended States, and Ephemeral Connections.
