The spaces of the SALA2 Architettura studio are located in the building complex of the Pontifical Sanctuary of the Holy Stairs.
About forty years ago, a group of young architecture students recovered the spaces currently occupied by the Studio. These spaces were built in the early 1900s to create a Sanctuary of the Passion - the Studio di Architettura occupies one of the side naves - which was not completed because of the war events, due to its proximity to the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the intervention of the then Minister Giuseppe Bottai.
Since 2005, in these places, the cultural association TRAleVOLTE has been working in order to make artists and architects talk about the relationship between art and architecture.
Since 2008, through the Association and in collaboration with the Passionist Fathers, the garden of the Convent of the Passionist Fathers has been created: Il Parco della Scala Santa, rich in permanent works and sculptures by numerous contemporary artists.
The cultural association TRAleVOLTE was founded with the aim of encouraging dialogue between art and architecture. This is in the conviction that it is necessary and current to recreate a fruitful dialectical exchange, albeit with disciplinary autonomy, between artists, architects and other cultural operators in order to overcome the trend towards solipsism and technicalism and to bring people and the environment back to the centre of cultural debate.
There is also the conviction that art and architecture can contribute to the construction of civilization, to create links between groups and peoples and thus improve human relations.
In the studio SALA2 Architettura, in Rome at Piazza di Porta San Giovanni, 10, there were the invited artists who, playing on the characteristics of the space, created their work.
In fact, in the architectural studio, located in the building complex of the Holy Stairs, the interaction between the artist (his poetics, his working practices) and space took place.
