Andrea Felice is a VFX Painter and Video Artist whose practice is rooted in Pop Surrealism. A self-taught artist with over thirty years of experience, his visual universe has been shaped by a distinctive background that brings together film production design, VFX (Visual Effects), comic art, and animated filmmaking.
His works give form to dreamlike visions in which ancient memories and futuristic imagery converge, creating landscapes suspended between reality and paradox.
His creative methodology—centred on translating visual-effects techniques into the language of painting—has developed alongside his work as a multidisciplinary university lecturer in Film Production Design, Visual Effects, and Multimedia Arts. This dual perspective has led him to explore the total sensory immersion of the viewer. For Felice, a painting is not merely a window onto another world: it becomes a fully immersive, synaesthetic experience.
His artistic vocabulary draws on a wide range of influences, from masters of printmaking such as Giambattista Piranesi to the visual universe of Carl Barks, and from the Surrealism of René Magritte and Marcel Duchamp to the epic imagery of Star Wars and the theatrical grandeur of Baroque architecture.
His artistic career has received significant international recognition, including the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award at the XIV Florence Biennale in 2023, presented for the innovative use of the Metaverse in his work Silent Invaders. Other notable honours include the Premium International Florence Seven Stars in Florence in 2019, the Art Critics’ Award in Milan in 2013, and the Down in the Hole20 Video Art Award in Miami in 2020.
His work has been featured in major solo and group exhibitions, including EGOSUPEREGOALTEREGO at MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome in 2015–2016, Mondi del Terzo Millennio in Berlin in 2012–2013, and the XIV Florence Biennale in 2023.
His artistic research has been documented in numerous publications, including the XIV Florence Biennale catalogue and the monograph UNIVERSI PARALLELI, published by Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori.
