OPEN STUDIO GALLERY
Open Studio Gallery is a space dedicated to photography, video art, and research into contemporary visual languages.
Founded on the vision of Patrizia Genovesi, who serves as its Artistic Director, Open Studio develops exhibitions, multimedia projects, talks, and research activities that explore the image in relation to other disciplines and forms of knowledge.
The Gallery approaches photography not simply as an artwork to be exhibited, but as a visual language capable of engaging in dialogue with video, cinema, music, technology, artificial intelligence, architecture, and scientific research. This interdisciplinary approach gives rise to projects that combine exhibition, experimentation, and critical inquiry, creating contexts in which different languages can converge within a shared field of research.
Alongside its exhibition programme, Open Studio serves as a centre for the study and dissemination of visual culture. Seminars, masterclasses, talks, and in-depth programmes devoted to photography and the visual arts complement the Gallery’s activities, connecting the history of photography with the transformations shaping contemporary visual culture.
Particular attention is devoted to the relationships between art, science, and technology, as well as to some of the key questions defining visual culture today: identity, perception, representation, space, digital environments, and the transformation of the gaze.
Open Studio is therefore simultaneously a gallery, a research space, and a centre for education: an open environment in which the artwork is not regarded as an isolated object, but as part of a network of relationships between artist, audience, space, and society.
Artistic Direction
The artistic direction of Open Studio Gallery is led by Patrizia Genovesi, photographer, video artist, filmmaker, lecturer, and independent researcher. Her artistic and technical-scientific background contributes to Open Studio’s multidisciplinary approach and to the Gallery’s particular focus on the dialogue between photography, visual arts, technology, and research.
Vice President of AFIP International, Genovesi combines her artistic practice with research and educational activities dedicated to photography and visual culture. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with cultural, scientific, and academic institutions and has developed projects in which photography, video, cinema, music, and science come together in the creation of the work.
