Metamorphosis of Emotion. In Portraiture presents 14 photographic portraits devoted to what emerges when a person interprets a real historical figure. The project originates from the intuition of a human affinity: a possible correspondence that takes shape through clothing, objects, light, and gestures. During the photographic session, the reference to another person’s biography becomes an opportunity to explore aspects of oneself.
The photographs focus on the smallest shifts in interpretation: a gaze that moves, a hand raised to the face, a posture that gradually relaxes. In these subtle changes, the boundary between the identity being evoked and the experience of the person embodying it becomes uncertain. The viewer encounters faces in which the reference to the character and the presence of the interpreter overlap, without it always being possible to distinguish where an emotion originates. The sequence invites us to linger on the moment when a deliberate pose gives way to a personal gesture, and the portrait becomes the site of an encounter.
A video reconstructs the subtle and almost imperceptible gestures found in some of the photographs on display.
