IDENTITY

IDENTITY is an immersive project by Patrizia Genovesi, exhibited at the Open Studio Gallery. Through three interconnected sections, it explores identity in urban space, digital representation, and conscious self-perception.

Photography, video, sound, and interaction converge into a single installation that connects historical architecture, contemporary design, and artificial intelligence. A visual and conceptual journey questioning our position between body, city, and network, between physical coexistence and the algorithms that observe us. Participating photographers are members of AFIP – International Association of Professional Photographers and independent artists.

The exhibition unfolds as an immersive and multifaceted journey: photography, video art, interactive installations, generative materials, and sound environments come together to create a visual and conceptual landscape that questions new forms of identity, presence, and representation. The generative AI systems employed are not mere tools of production, but integral components of the critical language: they reveal what they can generate—but also what they cannot comprehend.

The natural environment, in its perceptual concreteness and irreducible otherness, has for millennia represented the field within which human identity has been formed and transformed. This is not about idealizing nature as a harmonious and peaceful realm—for nature also means danger, scarcity, and conflict—but about recognizing it as a real selective context, where the individual defines themselves through contact and contrast. It is in cold, in hunger, in wind, in light and in shadow that consciousness has learned to distinguish inside from outside, self from other, the immediate from the distant.
