Carlo D'Orta


Carlo D'Orta was born in Florence in 1955. He has been a traveller and photographer for over 40 years, dedicating himself to the study of contemporary art and refining his skills with advanced courses in painting within the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and a master's degree in photography at the IED in Milan.

He has been exhibiting his works since 2009 in solo exhibitions at public institutions and private galleries in Italy, Germany, Singapore, and other countries, as well as at art fairs in Italy, England, France, and Belgium. In 2013 he held his first individual exhibition in a museum institution: Biology of the Inorganic, in the Museum of Contemporary Art in the Collicola Palace of Spoleto. In 2015 the Venice Zattere Workshop hosted his solo exhibition Beyond the Lens next to the Guatemala Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale. The same exhibition was then also taken to the Temple of Pomona in Salerno. In January 2017, The National Museum of Singapore hosted an event dedicated to his Vibrations series, and the exhibition was shown again at the Bruno Art Group Gallery in Singapore in the following months. In 2018 the Museum of the Central Archives of the State in Rome, and then the Orbetello Photography Festival and the Gallery of the IPSAR-Portuguese Institute of St. Anthony in Rome hosted his exhibition dedicated to 80 years of architecture in the EUR district of Rome.

He has won, been a finalist or short-listed in numerous national and international awards, including: PX3 Paris, The 3rd Biennale of Contemporary Art in Genoa, Sony World Photography Award, The Celeste Prize, Rospigliosi Prize, Satura International Contest, The Colleferro Art and Architecture Award, The Arteam Cup, Malamegi Vision Art Contest, The Linx Prize, Abate Zanetti School of Glass prize, Murano (as a photo-designer)and The Enegan Art Prize; Urban Photo Award.

His works are displayed in Public and Institutional collections including: The Museum of the Central Archives of the State (Rome), The Congress Centre of the Bank of Italy in Rome, The Chamber of Deputies,(Rome) The Bar Association of the Hall of Justice of Milan, The Regional Council of Campania, Communications Authority (AGCOM, Rome), EUR Spa (Rome, President’s office), Confindustria (Rome headquarters, President’s Office), The Carabinieri Officers’ School (Rome), Architektenkammer Baden-Württemberg (Stuttgart, Germany), LUISS University Guido Carli (Rome), ENI  (Rome headquarters), The Italian Institute of Culture in New York, The Consulate General of Italy in New York, The Italian Institute of Culture in Munich, The Portuguese Institute of S.Antonio (IPSAR, Rome), Abate Zanetti School of Glass, Murano (Venice), Polyclinic Hospital Umberto I (Rome), Negri-Clementi Law Partners (Milan), The Dario Mellone Foundation (Milan) and DeA Capital RE (Rome).

Additionally, between 2015-2017 his projects "(S)Compositions-Metaphor of Life", "Vibrations", "Liquidance" and "EUR 42/Today: Different Visions" were chosen to become part of the Archive of the Malerba Photography Fund, a prestigious institution dedicated to the promotion of photography at national and international level, which in 2019 also displayed the photographs of the Vibrations series in exhibitions organized in Tokyo and Cuba.
