Alien Beauty

Solo show by Ferdinando Carbone curated by Velia Littera

Painting by Ferdinando Carbone

Painting by Ferdinando Carbone

Ferdinando Carbone presents his paintings in a historic place dedicated to wines and liqueurs of excellence, "Buccone Vini e Olii". Originally the carriage stop of the Marquis Cavalcabò, then a tavern and since 1969 transformed into a wine bar. First wine shop in Rome to serve wines of a certain level.

Carbone contaminates this place mainly furnished with furniture of the last century with his contemporary canvas dedicated to the non-beauty. Figures that scare, that inspire fear, that "look ugly" but after careful observation they leave the viewer with a feeling of beauty. The alien beauty of Carbone's characters, dictated by masterfully blended colours, becomes hypnotic.

Non-faces become masks that hide the beauty of the soul and the mind runs, leaving room for imagination. Each painting assumes an intimate value because it reflects, like a mirror, what one wants to see and not what one sees. Carbone is capable of creating a thousand of illusory characters through the vision of only one, deformed, alien and invisible.

"What is not slightly different has an insensitive aspect - it follows that irregularity, the unexpected, the surprise, the amazement are an essential part and characteristic of beauty."
(Charles Baudelaire)

The exhibition will be open until January 30, 2023.
