NATURALIS VARIATIONES II

The exhibition inaugurates the RAW season exploring the natural world not as a representation, but as a material to traverse. Textile surfaces and material recycling become an integral part of the distinct language of the three artists.

MICRO opens its season with Naturalis Variationes II, a group exhibition featuring three female artists during Rome Art Week. Three voices, one common starting point: the natural world as a substance to traverse, not to represent. The tree, the branch, the root, the fabric, the leaf—they are pretexts, traces, remnants. What remains on the canvas is a way of feeling. Naturalis Variationes II continues the journey initiated in 2024. In this new chapter, the artists focus their attention on textile surfaces as an integral part of the pictorial language: acrylic and oil expressed through three distinct principles—Condensations for Susanna Moroli, Fademings for Francesca Mazzi, and Traces for Paola Virone. Stratifications, transparencies, and material sedimentations portray nature as a living web in continuous evolution. Three women, three artistic paths reached through lateral roads—fashion, law, and painting. None of them turns her biography into a theme. Francesca Mazzi works with mixed media on cotton canvas. At the core of her research is the sunflower, investigated as a transition from presence to memory. Susanna Moroli paints on canvases she creates from recycled fabrics or on reclaimed paintings. Her work explores landscape as the transposition of an inner state, balancing dense matter and light. Paola Virone arrives at painting after twenty-five years of designing fashion accessories. She works with acrylic on fabric through layers of color, occasionally incorporating imprints of ancient stamps. Three visions and three distinct declinations of the gesture. Sharing a common urgency: to strip nature of its visible form and restore it as an inner landscape.
