NATURALIS VARIATIONES II
21-27 Ottobre 2026
Opening 21th October 2026 at 6:00 pm
Nature is not an image to be reproduced, but a place to go through, a material to question, a trace through which connecting with one’s own experience of the world. Francesca Mazzi, Susanna Moroli, and Paola Virone share a seemingly common starting point—the vast universe of nature—yet they transform it through three deeply personal sensibilities and perspectives. Branches, roots, leaves, flowers, skies, earth, and water are not rendered in their immediately recognizable forms; instead, they are destined to become something else: signs, textures, surfaces, layers, and memory. The exhibition *NATURALIS VARIATIONES II* thus emerges from a dialogue between material and gesture, unfolding through accumulations, traces, and dissolutions. These are distinct ways of intimately sensing and exploring nature, bringing to life and revealing the complex formations and sediments of their inner landscapes. Three ways of looking at nature in order to go beyond nature itself.
ACCUMULATE – DISSOLVE – IMPRINT
Three artistic inquiries aiming for the essence of sensation, the substance of nature—traversed by time and surfacing from memory—reveals itself as a sign, condensed and imprinted upon the canvas, in a constant quest for its own form. Here, the viewer is invited to embark on a journey: to enter the material and color, lose himself among the signs, and traverse the layers, ultimately recognizing a trace of his own experience within this nature transfigured by painting.
Francesca Mazzi was born in Verona and moved to Rome at a young age, where she still lives and works. She earned a high school diploma in classical studies and subsequently earned degrees in Law from the University of Rome La Sapienza and in Bioethics from the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum in Rome. She began her artistic training by attending Dana Pagan's art studio and then the studios of Roman artists Giorgia Rissone, Guido D'Angelo, and Antonio Finelli at IDA, the Italian Academy of Drawing. She attended painting and drawing courses at the SmArt Polo per l'Arte foundation in Rome. She also took a botanical painting course at Studio Arti Floreali, taught by Maria Rita Stirpe. She participates in various studio workshops led by artist Angelo Bellobono, focusing on contemporary gestural landscape painting.
She currently attends the MAGTRE studio in Rome, run by maestro Guido D'Angelo
