Exhibition of Simona Gasperini e ReBarbus

Two artists who, in distinct ways, pursue their creative research through photography and the technique of collage

Curated by Agnese Della Guerra e Sabrina Spinazzè

What remains after the cut? After the fracture, the tear?

What remains is a journey through traces, visual memories, the imprints we leave on the world—and those the world leaves within us.

On display are the works of Rebarbus and Simona Gasperini, two Roman artists united by the technique of collage, which they each develop in opposite yet somehow complementary ways.

ReBarbus works with the living matter of emotions. Hers is an introspective path within a wounded and fragmented body, where photography, collage, and assemblage become tools of exploration, listening, understanding, and narration—giving voice to tears, absences, overlaps, and layers. At the same time, they serve as a cathartic medium to release, transform, regenerate, and recompose into a new unity.

Of an entirely different nature is the work of Simona Gasperini, in which collage merges with painting, graphic mark, and calligraphic gesture to create images that inhabit a dreamlike, ethereal dimension. Here, fragments of a forgotten past—old letters, oxidized photographs, torn pages—reassemble within a rarefied, suspended time where surreal echoes and early twentieth-century suggestions emerge. Mysterious female figures, their gazes often hidden, and weightless acrobats move gracefully through the intangible blue of the background, while the drawn gesture becomes a sort of psychography of memory.

Between immanence and vision, between roots and sky, the works of Rebarbus and Gasperini confront the same question:

What truly remains of us?

In the act of collage there is resistance, eternity—but also care.
A way to hold on to what remains.

And not lose it.

Sabrina Spinazzè
