"SPIN-OFF"

Michele Spina presents a journey between painting and sculpture, where color, material, and movement merge into a unique visual experience

Michele Spina’s artworks constantly place painting and sculpture in dialogue: a duality that runs through every installation and defines its essence.

His practice develops in cycles: each investigation comes to completion, allowing a language to settle before transforming and giving way to a new project, often in sharp contrast with the one that preceded it. Within his creative journey, symbolic and universal themes alternate with lighter and at times playful visions, always guided by the intent to engage the viewer through direct, familiar, and immediate images.

During the period of isolation brought by the pandemic, the series Dolphins took shape: figures that embody purity and innocence, but also wisdom and prudence. In an ironic and playful vortex, the dolphins dance and become a metaphor for nature reclaiming its own spaces.

The pictorial series Lemon Leaves intertwines with Dolphins through movement: the two explorations echo and merge, progressively dissolving the boundaries between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional. It is in this passage that the pictorial gesture becomes volume, and sculptural matter retains the vibration of color.

Five sculptures in iron and wool accompany the dolphins beyond the two-dimensional plane of the canvas, in a play of light and shadow, of fullness and emptiness.

The viewer is thus invited to enter a poetic and ironic space, where painting and sculpture do not oppose one another, but breathe together as parts of a single dance.
