An artist of the mark, working in pen and ink to arrest time. Landscapes and still lifes born from the repetitiveness of the mark, moving beyond sight, toward the contemplation of the image.

Laila Panella (Velletri, 1978) graduated from the Liceo Artistico and went on to study Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, graduating in 2004. Over the course of her research, she progressively shifted her work from plastic matter to graphic mark-making.

For years she has pursued a body of research dedicated to creating mental landscapes through the repetitiveness of the mark. Her graphic work is not, however, an isolated element: for three consecutive editions, her graphic work has been paired with installations engaging with the space of Castello Orsini, as part of the Borgo Festival in Fiano Romano.

Panella also teaches Discipline Plastiche e Scultoree, and her teaching experience is constantly interwoven with her personal research.
