This section of the Argentine Embassy has as its main role the promotion and dissemination of the different manifestations of national culture. In this sense, it encourages the participation of Argentine artists, academics and students of different artistic and cultural disciplines in festivals, fairs and events within the circumscription.
To this end, it has its own headquarters in the city of Rome, Casa Argentina, located in Via Veneto 7. This space has the Ginastera/Birri auditorium with a capacity for 100 people, which is used for concerts, plays and book presentations, as well as for the projection of films, as it has a screen and sound suitable for this purpose.
It also has the Sala Lola Mora, a space where exhibitions of painting, sculpture and/or photography are organised, and a large library with more than 4000 books connected to the network of libraries of the City of Rome, facilitating the dissemination of the material. All these activities are free and open to the general public. In addition, Spanish and tango courses are held at Casa Argentina.
Another fundamental task of the Cultural Section is to support Argentina's participation in the Venice Biennale, both in the art and architecture editions, and to participate in the three most important literature fairs in Italy: the children's book fair in Bologna, the International Book Fair in Turin and the "Piu Libri, Piu Liberi" Fair of the small and medium-sized publishing industry in Rome. In these events, the participation of Argentinean authors is promoted, as well as the workshops of the South Programme for the Support of Translations. We also participate in the Rome, Venice and Trieste Film Festivals, when Argentine films are present, and support events organised by IILA where Argentine artists often play an important role, such as the IILA Photography Award.
It is worth mentioning that we collaborate with the Ministry of Education in the dissemination of the scholarship for Italian citizens and in the reception of documentation. It also participates in the Italy-Argentina University Consortium Conference, promoting contact between the universities of both countries, and organises events related to the Argentine Chair at the University of Rome TRE and those promoted by the Argentine Network of Scientists in Italy.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the sponsorship of the Embassy is granted to those events that contribute to the dissemination of our national culture, and information is provided regarding the recognition of diplomas and study opportunities in our country.
