Roberta Pugno was born in Bolzano and graduated in Arts and Philosophy under Carlo Ginzburg. She has held seventy solo exhibitions, more than one hundred and fifty group shows, and published fourteen catalogues. Since 2010 she has been the artistic director of the IPAZIA Odv Association. She is among the curators of the publication of the six PSYCHE and ART conferences (2013–2019). Her images have been used as book covers for philosophy publications by Moretti & Vitali Publishing House and by the Edizioni della Scuola Normale Superiore. Recently, she conceived and directed the show LINEA SUONO IMMAGINE at the Teatro Basilica in Rome: bit.ly/TeatroBasilica.

IMAGINING AS RESISTANCE AND REFUSAL

With her art and forty years of professional activity, Roberta Pugno seeks to express the energy and emotional power that images, beauty, and the “wonder” of the world hold in opposing a reality increasingly bound to the logic of rationality, usefulness, and the banality of evil. “The human being,” says the painter-philosopher, “is born with the ability to imagine and with fantasy, which is often lost through disappointing or violent relationships. We must rediscover the healthy and vital origins of both the individual and of humankind, which began with long-standing reciprocity and even art, as attested by cave paintings.”

Supported by the most advanced scientific discoveries on the human mind, the artist proposes, along with her images, collective research, events, and manifestations capable of “speaking” to the profound nature of things, above all the “wisdom” of the unconscious world—that universal dimension that naturally drives human beings towards creativity and interaction with others, and which allows, through the realization of one’s identity, to counter violence between individuals and peoples, too long proposed as the supposed true nature of humanity.

The program of the opening and visits to the studio, along with meetings scheduled for Friday 24, Saturday 25, and Sunday 26 October 2025, will be published shortly.

In the studio, visitors will find a wide range of explanatory and theoretical material, including the catalogue IMMAGINEPAROLA and the publication series PSYCHE and ART.
