The Rome EDITION, the first EDITION hotel in Italy, opened its doors in 2023, bringing to the heart of the capital a concept of hospitality where design, art, culture and social life meet and interact.
For EDITION, hospitality is not simply about providing a place to stay, but about creating a cultural space capable of shaping experiences and building connections with the city and its creative scene. This vision runs throughout The Rome EDITION, reflected both in its artistic and design choices and in a programme that regularly involves contemporary artists, designers and cultural organisations.
The photographic works of Alberto Alicata, displayed in the guest rooms, establish a direct connection between visitors and contemporary artistic research. In the lobby, the Leda Chair, inspired by Salvador Dalí, introduces an iconic element that evokes the dialogue between art and design. Artworks, furnishings and artistic interventions thus become an integral part of the hotel’s identity, helping to create an environment in constant dialogue with visual culture.
This approach reflects the vision of Ian Schrager, founder of EDITION and a figure who has profoundly influenced the way contemporary hospitality and entertainment spaces are conceived. Together with Steve Rubell, Schrager created New York’s legendary Studio 54, which became, in the late 1970s, a symbol of the encounter between art, fashion, music, culture and nightlife. This spirit of bringing together different creative languages and communities continues to find expression in the EDITION project.
Since its opening, The Rome EDITION has developed collaborations with artists and creatives, transforming different occasions and moments in the life of the hotel into opportunities for artistic production, exhibition and cultural exchange.
These include collaborations with Ra di Martino and Diego Miguel Mirabella on the occasion of Arte in Nuvola; the project with Alberto Alicata, whose works characterise the guest rooms; activities developed with Santomanifesto, a Rome-based art collective; and the involvement of designer Sara Ricciardi and illustrator and visual artist Jacopo Ascari in the creation of the Christmas tree for Festive EDITION.
Through this constant presence of contemporary art and creativity, The Rome EDITION positions itself not simply as a hospitality destination, but as a place open to the city, capable of connecting hospitality, design, culture and artistic production while actively contributing to Rome’s creative scene.
