The body

performance by artist Marcela Szurkalo

Szurkalo wants to offer us a work that starts from her personal history, and with it the various researches carried out in her artistic career. Positioning herself in what Victor Turner defined as Liminal Space, focusing on the moment when the subject has to recompose the pieces of a lost everyday life, with the need to find a connection between art and Life, through the construction of places of action.
The most striking aspect is the spontaneity of the gesture, going along with his instinct and moving in a bubble free from the conventions that govern our behaviour, in his actions emerges the need to recreate a horizontal contact with the spectator and to make him an active part of the action and the scene through a multi-sensoriality.
The performance will take place on two levels. It will begin with a research on time and rhythm, the time of the universe that dialogues with the rhythm given by nature and the human being. It is precisely the rhythm of the latter that is marked by its heartbeat; thus, what makes us alive but also unique, and by words what distinguishes us from all the rest of the living beings. This leads to a research on equality and diversity.
Continuing his research, he will shift his attention to rhythm and dance, through which he will draw signs on a canvas and with a game of video projections he will make them acquire depth and volume, moving, crumpling and repeating themselves on the wall, finally arriving at a real dance that encloses the space. A liberating gesture with which to release all emotions.
