Primo Round — The dance of bodies, shadow and light

Primo Round explores boxing as a ritual through photography, painting, drawing, collage, video, sculpture, and installations. Visual languages intertwine to investigate the body, cinema, and the contrast between shadow and light.

PRIMO ROUND

The dance of bodies, shadow and light

The group exhibition "Primo Round" transforms Studio Campo Boario into a conceptual ring—a privileged territory where boxing transcends its purely athletic dimension to become a ritual, visual dramaturgy, and universal archetype. Born from the shared energy and passion for boxing shared by Alberto D’Amico, Paolo Bielli, and Stefania Fabrizi, the exhibition moves along the ridge between cinematic myth (drawing on the lesson of Raging Bull), the tension of the sculptural body, the short-circuit between camp and machismo, and a deep drive for existential and social redemption.

Coordinating the critical vision of the entire project is curator Andrea Iezzi—an art critic and historian long attentive to the dynamics of contemporary art and the enhancement of visual languages—who weaves the exhibition's narrative thread, orchestrating the dialogue among installations, video, painting, photography, and collage. The exhibition framework thus moves along an axis of tensions and counterpoints: on one side, the dense, dramatic matter and shadow of struggling bodies; on the other, the light and suspension of intimate gazes and geographies.

The Artists and Their Paths

The exhibition brings together eleven exceptional artistic voices, each addressing the themes of the body, struggle, and representation through unique languages and sensitivities:

    • Alberto D’Amico

    • Paolo Bielli

    • Stefania Fabrizi

    • Goffredo Adinolfi

    • Gisella Penazzi

    • Piero Pompili

    • Massimo Ruiu

    • David Fagioli

    • Lino Frongia

    • Massimo Scognamiglio

Primo Round thus configures itself not as an exhibition about sport, but as a polyphonic map in which contemporary art investigates how we protect ourselves, fight, and care for one another.
