experimental graphics by Andrea Pacini

Andrea Pacini, founding member and President of Alea, presents a selection of his latest works, based on research he began about four years ago and inspired by Alberto Burri's work on plastic materials.

The desire to transcend the Umbrian master's poetics by leveraging my manual and mental abilities led me to consider how to create press-printable media of a thickness comparable to textured painting, to the point of breaking the paper during printing. The varying responses to heat and open flame of the various plastics I've experimented with, applied to rigid media (wood, plexiglass, or aluminum) suitable for pressing, allow me to create a variety of textural and color effects, ultimately focusing my work on the printing stage, which itself becomes an independent creative process. Closely connected to the technical work is the need to express emotions and reflections that inspire the viewer, an opportunity for healing and self-improvement. By investigating the material, I explore myself; by experimenting with different color combinations, I seek out my own soul nuances. The exhibition also features prints from experimental, unburned media (such as Apnea and Apnea II), but the complete absence of traditional works on zinc, copper, or wood isn't a rejection of tradition, but rather a pressing need to gather the waste and scraps of a capitalist society almost irremediably suffocated by profit and overproduction, and revitalize them into something positive and inspiring.
