Betterpress Lab, our original letterpress workshop, opens its doors for an evening dedicated to Be Kind, the latest edition of Arte indifesa, Alessandro Ferraro’s ongoing project, created this year in collaboration with Betterpress.
As the 21 posters become part of everyday life in different neighbourhoods of Rome, a video installation in the workshop brings us closer to the moments of their creation. Colour meets paper, forms emerge: Alessandro’s watercolours unfold before us, offering a glimpse into the gestures and imagination that brought them to life.
The open studio is an opportunity to share the journey we have taken together: from Japanese haiku, in previously unpublished English versions by Martin Wilmot Bennett, to the meeting of watercolours and letters, and finally to the posters that bring images and poetry to the streets of Rome.
We will share how the words found their place among the shapes and colours of the watercolours: a patient process, letter by letter, using vintage Letraset transfers, before printing the title on each poster with movable type. A journey of trials, choices and gestures that we would like to share in the place where it took shape.
An invitation to explore, meet and discover Be Kind up close: a project dedicated to kindness as an openness towards others and a way of being in the world.
