ICONOKLASMUS. Sacred Subjects

Solo exhibition by Giuseppe Romano, curated by Giorgia Garuti and Fabrizio Marzilli.

The Lavatoio Contumaciale opens its exhibition season with “Iconoklasmus. Sacred Subjects” by Giuseppe Romano, curated by Giorgia Garuti and Fabrizio Marzilli.

The exhibition marks the artist’s Roman debut, presenting a series of oil paintings on sacred themes hosted in the spaces of the Cultural Association.

The evangelical scenes, rendered through a tense and incisive expressionist language, evoke an image of religiosity that is contradictory, restless, and fragile. Between anguish and grotesque distortion, Romano’s work questions the contemporary meaning of the sacred, revealing a dimension that is unstable yet permeated by an authentic spiritual quest. The canvases draw inspiration from biblical passages, reinterpreted in an introspective and deeply personal way.

The opening vernissage will be accompanied by a live music performance entitled “The Grazing Voice” by Alessandra Illuminati with giangly.
