INFINITE CONSTELLATIONS

Christine Jean presents the outcome of her residency Stones, Walls, Textures of Time, between Rome and Paris. Her works engage in a dialogue with those from the Art Brut and contemporary art collection of Gustavo Giacosa and Fausto Ferraiuolo.

During the summer of 2025, Christine Jean created a series of large-format India ink works entitled The Dreamed Life of the Stars. To produce these pieces, she used fragments of broken glass as printing matrices. The crystalline, mineral appearance of these glass shards resonates, for her, with the marble and alabaster assemblages she discovered in Rome at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. These "mineral follies," enclosed within an architectural geometry, project us into a cosmic dimension. They embody the movements and tensions of the world and of nature — petrified moments of metamorphosis, the evidence of an invisible energy.
In these ink works, she also integrated paper impressions taken in Rome from the walls of Porta San Paolo, the exterior walls of the Non-Catholic Cemetery, and the Aurelian Walls...
How do traces of time, cracks, ruins, and erosion transform to give rise to new forms — the promise of new lives?
