2025. The Future is Now.

Students of the Scuole d'Arte e dei Mestieri di Roma Capitale: the Exhibition.

After the first two Exhibitions—designed as a survey of the Schools’ Artistic Heritage, showcasing masters from the early 20th century and supported by significant archival research that revealed the presence of both teachers and students among the leading figures of Rome’s avant-garde—this year the spotlight shifts entirely to the students. After all, that’s what a school is primarily for.

A School that has existed for over 150 years and, alongside innovation—such as the introduction of digital disciplines—continues to preserve a traditional, patient, and inclusive approach to teaching, welcoming students of all ages and backgrounds, just as it did at the time of its founding.

The image chosen for this year’s poster tells that story precisely. The phrase featured in the artwork refers to a note intercepted by police during a raid at The Caravan Club, a gay venue in London, in 1933. The technique used to create the piece, however, is pibiones weaving, an ancient Sardinian tradition. The fonts evoke the iconic Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriter, a cornerstone of historic Italian design.

Claudio Proietti openly states his intention to create a queer artwork, emphasizing that the issue of gender identity is far from a passing trend; rather, it has a well-documented history that must be acknowledged. Thus, both past and present are reflected not only in the subject matter but also in the technique itself.
