BEYOND THE GAZE

A visual dialogue between Michael Irabor and Tiberio D’Aquino: BEYOND THE GAZE explores the face as a mask and threshold of identity, merging African spirituality, contemporary graphic language, and visual experimentation.

A visual dialogue between two radical and complementary artistic visions: those of Michael Irabor and Tiberio D’Aquino.
The title BEYOND THE GAZE alludes to what lies beneath the surface of the face: an exploration of the self as a mutable entity, crossed by memories, symbols, and cultural forces. The exhibition offers an immersive experience that blends African spirituality with contemporary graphic expression, psychic intensity with visual experimentation.

The works do not merely depict — they open thresholds, liminal zones where identity is continuously deconstructed and reconstructed.
Through distinct yet synergistic approaches, Irabor and D’Aquino explore the face as a mask: no longer an individual portrait, but a symbolic space of transformation.
An exhibition that invites us to look beyond — to traverse the visible and discover new forms of feeling and representation.
