The Sant'Angela Choir was founded 15 years ago, in 2009, in Budapest, by former students and teachers of the Franciscan Sant'Angela High School. The strong connection to their alma mater and Franciscan spirituality has always been fundamental for all its members. Over these 15 years, they have performed in many places, not only in Hungary but also abroad. Besides concerts, the choir regularly sings at Holy Masses and weddings. Most of their repertoire consists of Hungarian and European sacred music, but they also perform Hungarian secular choral works, especially arrangements of folk songs.
The choir is particularly proud of its numerous visits to various Christian communities in the Middle East, with whom they have also formed friendships. Over the past 15 years, they have visited Istanbul, the Coptic communities in Cairo and Alexandria, Jordan twice, and the Holy Land four times. Their last visit to Jerusalem was a year and a half ago, in April 2023, at the invitation of the Magnificat Institute, linked to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, where they sang at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre during the Holy Week celebrations.
The choir is especially delighted to perform for the first time in the Eternal City, which is even more significant in this period of spiritual preparation for the Jubilee of 2025. Their hope is that this concert will be an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the path toward the Holy Year.
