Fausto Ferraro Open Studio

Artist, set designer and educator, born in Rome in 1973. His painting emerges from the interplay between space, matter, and the construction of the image. His experience in set design informs a practice in which painting becomes a means of exploring depth

Artist, set designer, and art educator. Born in Rome in 1973, he trained at the Silvio D’Amico Art Institute—earning a diploma in Architectural and Interior Design Drafting—and subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he graduated in Set Design with top marks and honors. His training is rooted in the intersection of drawing, design, space, and material—fields that have defined his professional and artistic journey. In the realm of set design, he collaborated with Maestro Franco Zeffirelli as a draftsman and assistant set designer, contributing to opera productions such as *Aida* at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto and *Il Trovatore* at the Arena di Verona. He continued his professional career as a set designer and scenic painter at various studios and production houses, while simultaneously gaining experience in sculpture, modeling, and woodworking. The experience gained in set design helped shape an artistic language based on the relationship between image, space, material, and construction—elements that have progressively converged into his personal painting practice. He has been teaching since 2004; since 2015, he has held a permanent teaching position at the Enzo Rossi Art High School in Rome, where he teaches geometry, architecture, and interior design. Previously, he taught courses in cabinetmaking, woodcarving, and various artistic and workshop-based subjects. Alongside his professional and teaching activities, he pursues a personal body of work in painting, focusing primarily on oil painting. The body of work has been presented through solo exhibitions in Rome, Galatina, and Tortoreto, and a group exhibition in Gaeta in 2025. His artistic journey thus unfolds through a continuity between painting, set design, drawing, and materiality, where technical and design expertise engages in a dialogue with an autonomous, personal artistic inquiry.
