Curtain. Scenes from life

Area Contesa celebrates the link between art and everyday life. New addition this year with the "Telo d’artista" competition

The historic setting of Via Margutta 90 once again becomes a stage for contemporary art with Sipario. Scene di vita, the annual international exhibition that explores the shifting boundary between aesthetic expression and everyday life. This year’s exhibition explores precisely this fascinating interplay: the points of contact, the overlaps and the inevitable distances that both separate and unite the artistic realm and everyday reality.

To mark Rome Art Week, Galleria Internazionale Area Contesa is enriching the programme by launching the first edition of the Telo d’artista competition. Drawing inspiration from the evocative image of the theatre curtain, the open call invites creatives to engage with an unusual medium deeply rooted in the domestic sphere: a large canvas or piece of fabric measuring exactly 2.5 metres by 2.5 metres. Artists are offered complete thematic freedom, provided that the work serves as a manifesto for the dialogue between art and everyday life.

The artistic director will select the five best works, which will have the privilege of being exhibited in the Gallery’s historic spaces for the entire duration of the event. The highlight of the event will take place on the evening of the vernissage, when the winner of the Telo d’Artista International Prize will be revealed.
