Biography
I was born in 1983 in a small village in the Tuscan Maremma, Cinigiano (Grosseto), and ever since I was a child, I grew up with a passion for drawing and art.
I am the son of a jeweler mother and a farmer father—two professions that coexist with the beauty of this world. I discovered painting at the age of 9, during a summer afternoon spent rummaging through my father’s art textbooks and a bobbin lace centerpiece (an old Sicilian tailoring technique); and like a child seeing the light for the very first time, I began to see something.
While flipping through the pages, I came across one of the most beautiful paintings in my eyes, *The Libecciata* by Giovanni Fattori, and as I tried to reproduce it with my fingers on a canvas, I lost all sense of time. At that moment, I realized I would never again be able to live without painting.
During adolescence, I came into contact with the world of tattooing thanks to some older friends, and I was completely fascinated by it. So, I began approaching this reality to forge a career through art. I started entirely as a autodidact, making my first experiments, followed by a regional course, and from there came the first attempts—first on my own skin, and then on my friends'.
In 2006, after years of work and sacrifices to save money, I decided to turn this passion into reality and left for Thailand, where I attended an international school of traditional tattooing directed by master Khantima Aranjolovic.
After some apprenticeship experiences and obtaining my professional license, the *Matrix Draws Tattoo & Art* studio was born in Grosseto in 2008.
My path is neither special nor extraordinary; it is a life of sacrifices, renunciations, disappointments, and departures for new experiences.
I am deeply passionate about art, and I bridged my lack of formal education with curiosity thanks to the internet—somehow, I carved out my own parallel path.
I am a painter and tattoo artist, and this has allowed me to make a living through art. In particular, it gave me the opportunity to improve my techniques and knowledge, creating my own personal "Bottega" (workshop).
Returning to the workshop to savor art as it was conceived in the past—with sweat, technique, and satisfaction, especially through the smallest client who helps keep you going.
I repeat: no specific formal training. I would have liked to apprentice alongside a Master or follow a traditional school art path, to be on an equal footing with so many others.
I hope it serves the self-taught experience.
I always struggled to understand how things were supposed to be done; I always tried and tried again until I achieved a sort of instinctive grasp of the techniques. I have been drawing ever since I was a child, stealing everything possible with my eyes.
My work as a tattoo artist has allowed me to know and attend painting workshops and courses all over the world.
I dare say that the tattoo boom has poured a great deal of art into modern society at a historical moment when our artistic heritage is destroyed on a daily basis.
I have painted with many artists.
Artists I met by attending their workshops and seminars:
Michael Hussar, David Kassan, Casey Baugh, Markus Lenhard, Valentina Riabova, Guy Aitchison, Shawn Barber, Chris Diggelmann, Jeff Gogue, Henrik Uldalen, Boris, Shige, Nikko Hurtado, Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell, Nick Baxter, and many other artists of immense value.
My favorite painters are: Giovanni Fattori, Anselm Kiefer, Caravaggio, Velázquez, Bouguereau, Bacon, Dalí... the list will never end.
What probably sets me apart is the strength and tenacity that art has given me; it saved my life by pulling me off the streets. Waking up at night to paint after 12 hours of work as a laborer made me feel good.
In short, I would say this: I am Gianluca Fascetto, and for me, art is the physical extension of our mind, our heart, and our soul.
We carry an immense baggage of memory... everything that defines us in our lives is reproduced in the form of art. Our works are the product of emotions, colors, images, sounds, and scents that have developed and shaped us within the subconscious.
I can paint because it is the only thing I know how to do, transmitting through my works the message to return to a single consciousness.
The end of duality... to become one.
I am a painter, an artist who reproduces what has left its mark on me—an extremely powerful exchange of energy and information that I imprint within every brushstroke.
ALL INFORMATION COMES FROM MY DNA.
INSIDE EVERY DNA, THERE ARE MILLIONS OF YEARS OF EVOLUTION... a galaxy of information... millions of people.
Who reproduces all of this? Perhaps I do not know... for me, my art is a testimony for the people of tomorrow.
So…
“Passing on the information!”
Thank you for your attention.
