Some works remain inside a studio for years, far from view, yet no less alive for it.
On the occasion of Rome Art Week, Spazio Eughen opens the artist’s studio and presents a selection of works from the 1970s that have been preserved there for decades.
These works document a very specific moment in Eughen’s research, when colour, paper, gesture and experimentation became central elements of his pictorial language.
Alongside them, a number of material assemblages from the artist’s later period will also be presented, in which painting progressively gives way to materials, fragments, objects and layers.
This is not a retrospective, but rather an encounter between different periods in the work of the same artist, within the very place where these works were created and where they remained.
The studio still preserves traces of his practice, his materials, surfaces and habits. It is precisely from this continuity that the meaning of the exhibition emerges: to bring back to light what had remained hidden and to place works created at different moments in dialogue with one another, united by the same impulse to transform matter.
