LAXMI DEVI CRIVELLONE – The Sacredness of the Wound
With "The Sacredness of the Wound" (*Il Sacro della ferita*), Laxmi Devi Crivellone presents a cycle of seven oil-on-canvas paintings—the core of her artistic inquiry—at her open studio in Rome. The central figure is the "dark feminine," at once sovereign and vulnerable. Women with long black hair and piercing gazes inhabit spaces suspended between altar and ruin, temple and snow, earth and water. Often accompanying them is an animal guide—a witness, guardian, and symbol of freedom and purity.
Laxmi’s painting style is figurative, meticulous, and almost iconic. She draws upon the legacy of the Gothic and Symbolist movements, viewing the wound not as something to be concealed, but as the very site of revelation. It is an altar.
