Born in Bolzano in 1957, I have lived and worked in Rome since 1990, following fifteen years spent across North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Moving through different places and cultures profoundly shaped my gaze and continues to surface in my work today: in my relationship with materials, in traces and layers, and in the sense of passage and movement that runs through my artistic research.
I graduated with honours in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where I later completed a Second-Level Academic Diploma in Visual Arts and Performing Arts, again graduating with the highest marks and honours. I also spent a semester in Hamburg as a scholarship student at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, working, among others, with Monika Baer and Wim Wenders.
My artistic research develops primarily through painting and photography, two languages that, over time, have influenced and trained my gaze in a continuous dialogue with one another. My work often begins with a personal archive of images gathered during journeys and periods of travel, or through the observation of small, seemingly insignificant situations. These images are then removed from their narrative context and translated into painting.
Layers, sediments, overlaps, boundaries and traces of time run through a practice in which the work does not emerge from absolute control, but from a dialogue with what happens. Material, gesture and chance become integral parts of the process, creating a continuous balance between what remains and what comes to the surface.
I have exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and my work has received awards and recognition. Alongside my artistic practice, I have taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and in a variety of educational and workshop settings. I also work as a scenic painter for film and theatre, and a number of my artworks have been featured in and rented for film productions.
