I am visual artist based in Tampere, Finland. My artistic work consists of paintings and drawings. I also work with public art, sculptures and installations, which are produced by our two-men artist group ROP.
My most recent series of paintings is called The Ballad of the Salty Sea. It's made entirely at night time, in the safeness of the darkness. I was aiming for an emotional state of mind, a place where painting comes out sincerely and by instinctions. For me to tune to that kind of frequency requires darkness and silency. So, I painted at night.
The paintings in the series are kind of landscapes and quirky details of places. For me, they are like small pieces of memories drawn out of the lockers of my mind. For me they are bautiful, distant and also sentimental. To work methodically like this is like an adventure, you never know what you get when you go to the studio. The name of the series comes from there, since my best adventure idol is Corto Maltese, of course!
