Data and contact details

Christian Escobar, known artistically as Chrispapita, was born on November 3, 1982, in Guatemala City. A self-taught artist, he developed a deep passion for drawing and painting from childhood, beginning with pencil sketches and gradually moving to acrylic on canvas — a medium that would become his main form of expression.

His style is characterized by a strong connection to realism and hyperrealism, through which he explores the human figure, urban cultures, and the relationship between human beings and their spirituality. In his works, Chrispapita continually investigates the duality between light and shadow, using chiaroscuro as both an aesthetic and expressive resource. This approach, inspired by the classical Baroque, not only gives his compositions dramatic intensity and visual depth but also becomes a metaphor for the human condition — the coexistence of life and death, darkness and hope, fragility and strength.

Alongside his artistic career, Chrispapita has pursued an outstanding academic path:

  • Graduated in Dental Surgery from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala (2009).

  • Earned a Master’s degree in Dental Prosthetics from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil (2012).

  • Served as Professor of Human Anatomy at the Faculty of Dentistry of Universidad Francisco Marroquín.

This scientific training, focused on the study of the human body and its structures, has significantly influenced his art — giving it precision, anatomical rigor, and a distinctive realism that has become his stylistic hallmark.

His artistic philosophy is inspired by the Baroque concept of Memento Mori (“remember that you will die”), a constant reminder of the transience of life and the value of the present moment. Through his work, Chrispapita invites us to celebrate life and family, to live the present with awareness, and to reflect on the lessons that both past and future can offer.

Recognition and Exhibitions

Chrispapita has exhibited his work in numerous international venues, and his pieces have been received with great interest within the contemporary art scene.

A milestone in his career was his participation in the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), where he represented the Guatemalan Pavilion with the monumental work “Inclusion” — a mural over seven meters wide and nearly three meters high. Created in a hyperrealist style, this piece became a symbol of his commitment to social and cultural reflection through art.

In 2023, he exhibited at the Castle of Santa Severa, bringing back to Italy his art infused with spirituality and deep roots. Then, in October 2024, he presented “Saint Michael the Archangel” at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago de Guatemala, and most recently, in August 2025, he donated to the Cathedral of Alicante the painting “Virgen del Remedio”, now on permanent display. With Sublime, his latest project, Chrispapita takes a step further, offering an authentic journey of faith and devotion at the heart of the Jubilee 2025.

His exhibitions have reached cultural spaces and galleries across several countries, consolidating his presence in the international art circuit and giving voice to universal themes such as identity, spirituality, resilience, and human rights.
