Yana Rikusha, born in Russia and relocated to Rome in 2006, began her artistic career in 2014. Her passion for painting initially emerged as a desire to give physical form to her thoughts and emotions. She works internationally as a painter. After several years in the banking sector and international relations, she began painting and drawing in 2011. Her interest in painting arose during a period of reevaluating life’s values. Art became an expression of her feelings and ideas—a tool for conveying the beauty of life. Her work focuses primarily on classical “live” painting, using oil on linen canvas and dry pastel on paper. Another technique she employs is Flemish painting, which emphasizes meticulous attention to detail. This complex, ancient method involves applying multiple layers of transparent and semi-transparent oil colors, resulting in rich tones and a distinctive luminosity in the artwork. In recent years, she has concentrated on still life compositions, combining various objects, fruits, vegetables, insects, and animals into unique and harmonious arrangements of shapes, light, and color. Another artistic direction she explores is fantasy painting, where she focuses on storytelling through images, subjects, and landscapes, drawing on the beauty of real life. Her painting technique is notable for its realistic representation while also incorporating pictorial stylization—reproducing or imitating an ancient painting style in a new artistic context, transforming objects without losing their recognizability. She has undertaken various studies to master painting techniques: from 2010 to 2015 at Matearts (Rome, Italy), Atelier Renaissance, Atelier d’artistes, La Bottega du Peintre (Paris, France), and from 2015 to the present at the studio of Russian painter Nikita Krapivin (Moscow, Russia).
