Artistic Biography

Daniele Piscopo (1986) is an Italian visual artist who lives and works in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. His artistic practice encompasses painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and experimentation with materials, engaging in a continuous dialogue between image, memory, nature, and space.

His interdisciplinary education began at the A. Frattini Art High School in Varese, where he graduated with the highest marks. He continued his studies in Art History at the University of Milan and subsequently graduated in Decoration from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara with the highest honours (110/110 cum laude).

From the early years of his education, his artistic journey has been characterised by constant experimentation with different languages, materials, and techniques. From figurative painting to sculpture, from the use of industrial and recycled materials to light and sound installations, his research explores the expressive possibilities of matter and its ability to transform into image, volume, and space.

Among his sculptural works are Luce Natìa (2014), an installation made of iron wire, polyethylene, and LED lighting, dedicated to the themes of motherhood and the origin of life; Trofeo, created through the intertwining of electrical cables; and Caballo que surge de los infiernos, a sculpture made from recycled plastic filaments woven around a metal structure.

A recurring element in his work is the concept of intertwining, understood not merely as a construction technique but as a compositional principle capable of establishing relationships between matter, transparency, light, and movement.

Alongside his visual arts practice, Piscopo has developed an extensive international career in musical theatre, initially as an opera singer and later as a stage director, set designer, and costume designer. His musical training, further developed at the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, together with his studies in opera direction at the Verona Opera Academy, has contributed to broadening his understanding of space and imagery.

Theatre thus becomes an extension of his visual research, a place where painting, sculpture, architecture, light, the human body, and movement can converge into a single artistic experience.

This relationship is evident in works such as La Maddalena (2024), a monumental painting measuring 200 × 300 cm, created for the production of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca, and in the sculpture Caballo que surge de los infiernos, later incorporated into the stage dramaturgy of Claudio Monteverdi's Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda.

In recent years, his artistic research has focused primarily on the relationship between photography and painting, through a personal technique in which water plays a fundamental role in the creative process.

Photographic images, personally captured during his travels and stays in different places, are transferred onto painting surfaces and subsequently transformed through pigments, watercolours, glazes, and interventions with different materials. Water actively shapes the process, altering the surface, partially dissolving colours, and creating new relationships between the photographic image and the painted material.

Photography thus moves beyond its exclusively documentary function to become the starting point for a new interpretation of reality, suspended between memory, perception, and evocation.

Nature occupies a central role in this research: landscapes, trees, flowers, reflections on water, and architecture are observed, fragmented, and recomposed through layers and chromatic transformations.

Representative works from this period include Ninfee — Okinawa, Yellow Koi, Palacio de Cristal Madrid II, Carpe Koi Giallo Macao, Scacchiera cromatica, and Mosaico Las Palmas, a composition of 36 canvases arranged at different depths, in which the photographic image acquires a spatial and three-dimensional dimension.

His exhibition history includes solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In 2018, he participated in the international exhibition Accademia Italia, organised as part of the 7th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum at the Ilya Repin Academy, presenting the work La grande madre della perla.

In 2021, he presented the solo exhibition L'arte nel suo mistero le diverse bellezze insieme confonde at the A.R.T. exhibition space in Lavena Ponte Tresa. In the same year, he participated in the group exhibition Accuratum at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara with the installation Zerlina, in which sculpture, music, light, and performance merge into a unified artistic language.

In 2025, he took part in the tenth edition of Rome Art Week, within the exhibition In the Name of Hope – Jubilee Edition 2025, curated by Antonia Ciampi at the TH Roma Carpegna Palace, presenting five works exploring photography, painting, and the memory of travel.

In 2026, he held the solo exhibition Tra teatro e pittura (Between Theatre and Painting), curated by Giuseppe Reggiori at Spazio Scambio in Porto Valtravaglia, dedicated to the dialogue between pictorial expression and theatrical creation.

Daniele Piscopo's artistic research represents a constantly evolving journey in which different artistic languages are not regarded as separate disciplines, but as complementary means of exploring reality and transforming it through imagination.

At the heart of his artistic vision lies the idea of art as a process of transformation: an encounter between experience, matter, and memory, capable of generating images that belong simultaneously to the real world and the realm of dreams
