Joseph La Mela is a French photographer of Italian heritage.
Born in France in 1979, over the course of his two-decade artistic career he has built an extensive archive that has evolved into more than ten major bodies of work, including the famous Trilogy of Love, his most significant and personal work. A raw and emotionally charged chronology of love, it explores, with a surprising and deeply moving openness, universal themes such as passion and pain, and the birth and death of a feeling.
In 2026, he launches the XXX platform for subscribers, offering exclusive private content to enthusiasts and collectors.
On the occasion of Rome Art Week, Joseph launches the XXX PARTY concept at the Arsenale Cenci in Rome, an iconic venue of the city’s underground cultural scene.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I take pictures therefore I am.
Photography is my quest, knowledge of myself.
As a primary need of spirituality, it is a special discipline, a place where I can ask questions.
Photography makes me free: it snails the labyrinth of my existence, tracing fragments of my journey and winding the path of my loves.
Hinge of my humble history into the infinite of possibilities, my pictures talk to my conscience, resonate with my dreams and merge with my soul.
Scopic pulsions, multiple desires, I magnify my inner life through my images.
In my way, I celebrate the poetry of things – between life and death – sealing my pact with god and time.
