Identità in movimento. Tre mostre, un quartiere, molte storie
What can a portrait reveal about who we are? How can an individual gesture become part of a collective artwork? And how can art give shape to time?
During Rome Art Week, artist and curator Patrizia Genovesi invites you on a walking tour through Garbatella, exploring three exhibitions that approach the relationship between identity, emotion, memory, and transformation from different perspectives.
The tour begins at 5:30 PM at Open Studio Gallery, where Patrizia Genovesi presents Metamorphosis of Emotion. In Portraiture. Through photography and video, the artist explores the encounter between the identity of a performer and that of a real historical figure. A glance, a posture, a subtle gesture become traces of emotional transformation, creating a delicate dialogue between who we are and whom we portray.
Our second stop takes us to Spiritree, with Totem. Individual Identity, Collective Identity. Here, sculptures created by professional artists and participants in the Spiritree Workshop come together within a shared, tree-like structure. Each artwork retains its individuality while contributing to a new collective identity. The exhibition offers a reflection on the creative power of diversity and the meaning of belonging.
We will conclude the tour at Cosarte, with Tempo Secondo Mano (Time, Second Hand), an exhibition project that explores time through artists' books, gestures, and the layering of memory. Turning pages, erasing, adding, transforming: the artwork becomes a process that unfolds over time, inviting viewers to take an active part in the experience.
As we walk between exhibitions, we will explore historic Garbatella, with its distinctive courtyards, original architecture, gardens, and unexpected corners. A neighborhood with a strong sense of identity, where collective memory continues to engage with contemporary life.
This will be an opportunity to encounter different artistic languages, discover creative spaces in the neighborhood, and share observations, questions, and perspectives.
Three exhibitions, three ways of exploring the human experience, brought together in a single journey that invites us to see art and the city through fresh eyes.
