Archivio Menna Binga
The Menna/Binga Archive, Rome headquarters of the Filiberto Menna Foundation, is directed by Bianca Pucciarelli Menna and has always hosted contemporary art exhibitions. Its current exhibition project Transfusioni, a homage to Menna, conceived and curated by Anna D’Elia with the contribution of Bianca Menna, Silvia Stucky and Paola Romoli Venturi, has engaged in a dialogue between artists whose works are held in the Archive, and the contemporary cultural world.

In continuity with the research, promotion and conservation work carried out by the Lavatoio Contumaciale since 1974, the Transfusioni project, conceived and curated by Anna D’Elia with the contribution of Bianca Menna, Silvia Stucky and Paola Romoli Venturi, connects the spaces of Lavatoio Contumaciale and the Menna/Binga Archive, as shown in the logo, which draws four possible paths connecting the two spaces. By opening a dialogue between the artists’ works held in the Menna/Binga Archive and contemporary culture, the project aims to encourage and urge the transfusion of ideas, places, contexts and subjects of different backgrounds with Italian and foreign artists.

Transfusioni is meant as a tribute to Filiberto Menna, present in the four exhibitions held since April 2016 by way of the artists’ works dedicated to him that are held in the Archive, and in the performative reading of a poetic-philosophical text he wrote. The artists selected from the Archive are Ketty La Rocca, Maria Lai, Verita Monselles, Luca Maria Patella. The connecting thread is the relation their works engage with the most diverse disciplinary fields, including poetry, music, astronomy, anthropology, as well as the multiplicity of expressive means used in experimental ways, and the verve with which established knowledge is debunked. Attention to embodied experience and its symbologies, a constant theme in the works presented, urges a reflection on the functioning of iconic and verbal language, fifty years after the development of alphabets meant to give voice to identitarian differences which until then were scarcely valued by the dominant linguistic canons. Younger artists, including Jacopo Benci, Karmen Corak, Federica Di Carlo, Francesco Impellizzeri, Paola Romoli Venturi, Silvia Stucky, Nicole Voltan, entered through works in a dialogue with La Rocca, Lai, Monselles, Patella, who spearheaded transfusion and contamination practices among genres and languages, knowledges and contexts.

Also in 2017 a ‘transfusion’ began between art and writing, in the exhibition Elogio della fragilità (In praise of fragility) curated by Anna D'Elia and Roberto Gramiccia, with works by Elena Bellantoni, Davide Dormino, Oscar Turco. A project scheduled for 2018 will involve a work of architect Costantino Dardi at Lavatoio Contumaciale, vis-à-vis with that of artist Francesca Fini.

The dialogue begun in the spaces of Lavatoio Contumaciale and Archivio Menna/Binga will continue online, by accessing the digital catalogues accompanying each exhibition, and joiningh the discussion in the Transfusioni Facebook page
