The Polish Institute of Rome promotes Polish culture and art in Italy through exhibitions, concerts, films, and conferences. It collaborates with Italian institutions to highlight both established and emerging Polish artists, fostering a dialogue.

The Polish Institute of Rome was founded in 1992 by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been based since its inception in Palazzo Blumenstihl, in the Prati district.

Its mission is to introduce Polish culture, art, music, theatre, cinema, literature, and history to the Italian public through exhibitions, film screenings, performances, concerts, debates, conferences, and meetings organized both at its headquarters and in other venues across Rome and throughout Italy, fostering dialogue between Polish and Italian artists, experts, and scholars.

Visual art holds a central place in the Institute’s activities. For many years, it has been engaged in developing and organizing Polish art projects both within its own premises and externally, in collaboration with Italian curators, artists, critics, institutions, and galleries, whose attention and trust are essential. Thanks to their involvement, the Institute has been able to present to the Italian public both established figures of the Polish art scene—such as Władysław Strzemiński, Magdalena Abakanowicz, and Mirosław Bałka—and younger, emerging artists. Over the years, the Institute has collaborated in Rome with institutions, foundations, galleries, and independent spaces such as MAXXI, MACRO, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, MLAC (Museum Laboratory of Contemporary Art), Fondazione Volume!, Galleria Pino Casagrande, Fondazione Giuliani, Nomas Foundation, Fondazione Memmo, Fondazione Romaeuropa, Galleria Unosunove, Galleria z2o Sara Zanin, Postmasters Roma, Galleria Ermes Ermes, Galleria Interzone, Curva Pura, Villaggio Globale, Rialto Sant’Ambrogio, Angelo Mai, Valle Occupato, and others. Particularly close collaborations have taken place with Galleria Café Europe and Fondazione Pastificio Cerere.

The Polish Institute of Rome also strives to create a platform for mutual exchange in the field of Polish art history through collaborations with Italian universities and publishing houses.
