The talk aims to open an in-depth reflection on the role of contemporary art as a tool for cultural, social, and urban regeneration in the city of Rome, at a time marked by a profound redefinition of cultural policies and of the very function of public spaces. In a context where the Capital is gradually rediscovering the need for dialogue among institutions, artists, and citizens, art reaffirms itself as a privileged language for reading, interpreting, and transforming the urban landscape.
The meeting brings together experiences from different fields — institutional, curatorial, and operational — which, through diverse approaches and perspectives, address regeneration as a cultural process rather than merely an architectural one. The discussion will explore art as an act of identity rebirth, social inclusion, and community cohesion, as well as a means to reactivate places, reinterpret heritage, and enhance the value of the city’s peripheral areas.
The talk takes place as part of the tenth edition of Rome Art Week, the annual event that from October 20 to 25, 2025, will transform Rome into a vast, citywide stage dedicated to contemporary art. A free and inclusive initiative that involves artists, curators, galleries, foundations, academies, and independent spaces throughout the city — from the historic center to the outer districts — in order to build a shared network of experiences and visions.
Through direct testimonies and an open dialogue with the audience, the talk will offer insights into the relationship between art, territory, and community, questioning how creativity can actively contribute to shaping a new urban and cultural identity for Rome.
