In line with the theme of the Comieco Paper Week 2023 focused on paper recycling, the artist Emily Little presents Scarti d'Arte, an installation made with paper by-products derived from her artistic work processes.

Along with paper recycling, the installation also makes reference to the broader themes of art and ecology. It sees artistic practices based on the principles of RRR (reduce, reuse, recycle) as a form of responsibility, where the reuse of materials and the conservation of primary resources are fundamental requirements of a contemporary and sustainable, visual art practice.

Parallel to these themes, is the symbiotic relationship between the artist and the material, where paper gives shape to idea, and in which the premise of rebirth is inherent. From this stance, artistic production is viewed as a single, organic form that transmutes over space and time. Boats lie among the waste papers of the installation, a symbol imbued with historical and contemporary associations, which in this installation become symbols of the artistic process of rebirth and of transformation.

At its core, Scarti d'Arte sees in the 'waste' of artistic research a precious resource that feeds and drives the creative process.
