On the occasion of Rome Art Week 2019, the week of contemporary art, Claudia Chianese presents Ogni donna è un'isola, curated by Roberta Melasecca: photographs and jewels to tell the story of a female island, harsh and sober in its great beauty, lunar in its landscapes of black rocks, fertile soil, sun and ripe tomatoes, free as a wave that is never still, never equal to itself. Every woman has at least one wound to tell, on her heart or skin; every woman is an island, a being in herself, with her beauty, complete in her creative and spiritual essence, ambivalent in her being isolated and in relation.
Pantelleria. On 28 May 2016 an arson fire burns 600 hectares at Montagna Grande. Three days of hell, three days of passion before succeeding in stopping the fire destroyer: everything was motionless, buried by the ashes. Only silence and wind. Hundreds of corpses of trees and plants stretched their arms towards the sky, some lay twisted on the ground. Where it was cool green, everything was black, like the rocks of lava stone, like obsidian.
In the desolation, small ferns, green as the light, have begun to make their way in the ashes, to remember that the tension to life is stronger than any personal interest, than any malice, than any deception, and that the relationship between human beings and nature is the only thing that keeps us alive.
