12 times the small artist's book paper by Valerio Magrelli


The libresco tapestry, a project conceived and curated by Ilfilodipartenope, was created by about sixty artists who worked on the booklet 12 times on paper, after having debuted in a dedicated space of the Contemporary Art Fair The Others (Turin 2-5 November 2017) and was presented in Naples as a guest of the Photographic Archive Parisio in Piazza del Plebiscito (Porticato di S. Porticato, Piazza del Plebiscito). Francesco di Paola), at the end of November 2017 and now will be presented in Rome at the Cultural Association TRAleVOLTE (Piazza di Porta San Giovanni, 10 00185 Rome) on Thursday 22 February 2018 with the intervention of Valerio Magrelli.

The starting point of the project "This is not a work but a workmanship" was "12 times the paper" by Valerio Magrelli, a small artist's book published in 2014 by Edizioni ilfilodipartenope in the series Ex-voto. The small work has been dismembered while maintaining the Gutembergian matrix to allow the birth of a new project related to this writing.

In "12 times la carta" Valerio Magrelli recounts himself through twelve fragments of his own writing and borrowed from others (Leonardo Da Vinci, Bohumil Hrabal, Alvar Aalto, S. Francesco, Sinfosio), and lends himself to being translated by artists through his own language that dialoguing with the text translates but above all overturns and contaminates.

The project started with the involvement of artists who on other occasions have collaborated in the projects of ilfilodipartenope or who attend Spazio ArteLibri in Naples. Several young artists have been involved by Antonio Biasiucci and Vincenzo Rusciano. Antonio Biasiucci, founder of the Irregular Laboratory, involved young photographers who participated in LAB 1 and LAB 2, Vincenzo Rusciano works and does research on youth creativity and experimentation in Naples.

In order for the whole operation to become a nomadic and creative flow, artists present at the project The Others in Turin were involved, and subsequently artists who crossed the project in the various exhibitions.

The input at the birth of this project was reading the writing:

The cultural association Archivio Fotografico Parisio (Parisio Photographic Archive) is based in Naples in Piazza del Plebiscito, San Francesco di Paola portico, in the same premises that since 1924 have been Giulio Parisio's photographic studio. Established in 1995, the association is the guardian of an important photographic heritage that constitutes an archive documenting the social, cultural and urban history of Naples and Campania.

The Parisio and Troncone archives consist of more than one million original negatives, as well as a considerable amount of original positives. The two funds together give a complete reading of the historical and artistic history of Naples, from the early twenties to the late eighties.

In addition to managing and conserving photographic material, the association also promotes culture in general and photography in particular, organizing exhibitions, meetings and debates.

 Antonio Onorato has an artistic career of twenty years of great importance in the world of jazz and beyond, eclectic musician, ranging from jazz-rock, world music to composition for orchestra. He is one of the few Italian musicians to have held his own concert at the Blue Note in New York, historical temple of international jazz.
